I had a stroke a couple of years ago when I was 25. I recently joined a gym that has a Kinesis machine and think it would be useful but I'm not sure how to use it. Does anyone have any sugestions? I have left sided hemiparesis.

Thanks

First of all thank you for a very valuable question! Yes, the Kinesis can be very helpful for you and here are a few simple but effective ways for you to use it:

1. The beautiful thing about the human body is that it was desinged to talk to iteself. By training the right side of your body, the left side will receive a 15% carryover - like a residual effect - without doing anything. So don't be afraid to train your right side to the level it can handle because your left side will still benefit.

2. In the same manner as #1, because of the dual weight stacks you have the ability to perform independent motion. You can use both sides of your body but adjust the weight to meet the level of each respective side.

3. When performing your exercises, stay within a range of motion that you can maintain a nice rhythm - as if you were moving to the beat of a song or a metronome. The body loves rhythm and this will help build good neural connections.

There are many other ways to use the Kinesis in this situation, but this is a good start.

Does this make sense and provide any help for you?
