Owner and Manager Frank Calandrino is taking fitness to the next level at Level 1 Fitness
in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This boutique fitness facility aims to provide
an inviting environment that caters to individuals looking for a high-quality
experience, qualified trainers and an exciting offering of fitness classes.
One of the
main components that separates Frank’s facility from others in the area is the
presence of the Kinesis Wall. Coming from a background in Martial Arts, Frank
was accustomed to performing a lot of different movements; however, what first
drew him to purchase the Kinesis Wall was the element of resistance and the
ability to incorporate that into each movement performed. After playing around
with it, he noticed that he could do standing lunge extensions and alternating extensions.
This is similar to a common Martial Arts move referred to as a “strike from a forward lunge stance”. After realizing that he could simulate many movements from
Martial Arts and other sports, Frank was hooked.
So, in 2007
Frank introduced the Kinesis Wall to his brand-new facility. For the most part,
Kinesis was a foreign concept to most of his members. As a result, he had to use
creativity in order to convince people to try it. With the help of Personal
Training and Group Classes, Frank was able to overcome this initial barrier and
unfamiliarity.
After getting
people to try the Kinesis, they “find the movements pleasing and they feel like
they can get a good workout right away. It’s not a huge learning curve and the
different movements get more challenging the more the client progresses. People
definitely like that about it,” says Frank.
Now, Frank
has established a well-known Kinesis program at Level 1 Fitness through a
variety of classes that cater to varying comfort levels and desired outcomes.
In turn, Level 1 Fitness was even featured on a local television network, LX.TV
(NBC Universal’s Local Media division - see video above).
Frank’s
facility uses both Personal Training and Group Classes to teach Kinesis. Most
of the clients range between 30 to 50 years of age. With 20 different trainers,
everyone that visits Frank’s facility is bound to be satisfied.
According to
Frank, the “Kinesis goes really well with the rest of the Technogym line.
Although I don’t offer plate-loaded equipment, I have more of the unique and
state-of-the-art items that people are looking for.”
A leader and
role model in providing high-quality fitness experiences in the Philadelphia
area, Level 1 Fitness is able to effectively integrate and simulate sport
movements into their training to satisfy the demands of their members as well
as provide a friendly environment that keeps members coming back each day.
